economybooster Store 1820 HISTORICAL STAFFORDSHIRE Pitcher & Bowl Stevenson a.imagelink {color:#00005f;} a:hover.imagelink {color:#00005f;} a:visited.imagelink {color:#c8ecf5;} a.imagelink img.auctionimage { border: 2px solid #00005f; } a:visited.imagelink img.auctionimage { border: 2px solid #c8ecf5; } ANTIQUE HISTORICAL STAFFORDSHIRE PITCHER & BOWL WASH SET Striking and dramatic antique Historical Staffordshire matching pitcher and bowl wash set - pitcher measures 9-5/16" tall and bowl measures 13-1/4" wide and 4" tall. Dating to around 1820, pitcher features a bulbous shape, flared foot, pinched neck with wide pouring spout and pulled, ornate handle. Border is decorated in a twining vine pattern which is repeated on the interior collar. Pitcher scenes include the Deaf & Dumb Asylum, Hartford, Conn. and the Almshouse, NY. Bowl scenes feature the Boston Athenaeum in the foreground with the spire of the Octagon Church behind it. Believe set is part of the US Architecture series by Ralph Stevenson - bottom of pitcher is simply incised with an "X" - bowl is unmarked. Transferware covers both pieces in a rich, deep, vibrant, cobalt blue against creamy white - very dramatic. Condition is very nice - amazing it survived, as this was designed for utilitarian use. Pitcher has a professionally conserved repair to the spout edge, which sustained a clean break at some point in its life (original piece was reattached with professional repainting of the border at the break points and leaf edge - extremely well done) - I found the repair with a black light and because the pitcher did not ring true - absolutely does not show on the interior or exterior - no chips, cracks, hairlines, discoloration or damage. Bowl has two fine, tight short hairlines under the rim - one shows on the surface as a line in a leaf. There is a tiny chip under the rim, and a glaze skip on the exterior rim (1/4") that is dark brown and blends in - the transfer carries slightly onto the skip so it is a production blemish - there is also minor scratching to bottom interior of the bowl from contact with the pitcher base. I consider the condition to be excellent - it is sturdy and functional and truly an amazing, striking set - so difficult to find the matching Historical Staffordshire pieces! Wonderful addition to any collection or display. PLEASE NOTE -- I AM OFFERING FREE SHIPPING ON THIS SET!!
