1898 Rookwood Ewer Pitcher 387E Elizabeth Weldon Brain click picture to enlarge For your bidding consideration we are offering this exquiste piece of Rookwood Pottery. This Ewer Pitcher is in pristine condition with no chips, cracks, or scratches. Piece does have the usual crazing throughout which is typical for the age. This piece measures approx 7 inches tall and approx 6 inches wide at the widest point. The pre 1900 mark is clearly shown on the bottom of this piece. The marking is 13 flames. E.W.B is the artist initials. The beautiful leaves that have been glazed in this piece are just stunning. Elizabeth Weldon Brain worked at Rookwood for only 1 yr from 1898 to 1899. This rare find is a must for all you Rookwood Collectors. We are not experts so please ask any questions or request additional pictures if we missed something. Elizabeth Weldon Brain - (1870 -1960) China and pottery decorator and portrait artist, born in Springfield (Clark) in 1870, a daughter of George & Sarah Willard Brain & cousin of Belle Marvel Brain. She attended the Art Academy of Cincinnati from 1890-1894 then taught 2 years at the School of Art, Wittenberg College Springfield. Returning to Cincinnati in 1897, she worked briefly at the Rookwood Pottery and after a year of study in Europe-- during which she reportedly studied with James A.M. Whistler-- She was married to Charles Beach and moved before 1902 to Dubuque IA. She died in Dubuque March 23, 1960.
