~ Limited Production ~ Rowe Pottery Works Set of 3 Southern Candlesticks 2005 Historical Collection SIZES: approximate measurements Tall Candlestick: 9" high x 4-1/4" diameter at base Medium Candlestick: 7.5" high x 4" diameter at base Short Candlestick: 6" high x 3.5" diameter at base Each candlestick is hand-thrown by the same potter - Roy Marsden, one of Rowe's long-time potters. Each year Rowe Pottery Works introduces a new collection of historical pottery that reflects the culture of generations past. The 2005 grouping was inspired by salt glaze pottery used in the 1850s, shortly before the Civil War. Candlesticks made of stoneware were very rare in those days. These candlesticks were inspired by a Southern influence and graced the tables of the growing middle class, providing affordable yet simple elegance. Each candlestick is hand crafted in salt glaze pottery with the brownish toned ash glaze finish and made in Wisconsin USA. To create the historical series, the Rowe craftsmen use salt glazing techniques dating back to the 16th Century. The bumpy, orange-peel surface along with the brown, green & dark grey colorations are all characteristics of this traditional pottery making process as it was fired in wood burning kilns. The Rowe Pottery mark is incised on the side of each candlestick. An information card about the Historic Series comes with the set.
